Both types of sessions are offered to ensure that students learn in the environment best suited for them. 9 out of 10 times private lessons are almost always more efficient since instructors are able to customize a lesson plan for each private student.
There are many musicians who have extraordinary degrees and performance credentials who also teach students when they are not busy performing. While many of these performers are excellent teachers, since teaching is not their main priority, the student can suffer. It should be noted that it takes additional experience and highly refined skills to be an effective educator.
All of our music faculty members hold a Bachelor of Music degree or higher and/or have substantial experience with teaching students at a variety of ages and levels. They come to us with only the highest recommendations from other students and parents.
Communication with students and parents (for younger students) is of the utmost importance for the proper development of the student. There is nothing more frustrating when trying to learn something new than being unable to clearly communicate with or understand the instructor. Our faculty members are all screened for their ability to break down key concepts into simple explanations that ensures students are able to understand and master them. A weekly assignment notebook provides additional communication to parents of students so that they are able to participate at home in the weekly practice assignments and goals.
Many private teachers or schools only teach one style such as "classical" or insist that students must learn only by a certain book, method, or style if they are just beginning. At our school, we are happy to teach all different styles from classical, to rock, jazz to country, and more. Want to learn something you heard on a CD? No problem, bring in your CD or IPod and the teacher will transcribe it and help you learn it in no time! We will always suggest the best ways to approach each style/subject based on our many years of experience, but ultimately, we teach what YOU want to learn.
We're ready and excited to get you started in our variety of music and/or dance programs!
