Music Lessons for All Ages in New Orleans, LA

Piano Lessons and Keyboard Lessons New Orleans, LA

At the River Ridge School of Music, we offer New Orleans piano lessons and piano classes to students of all ages each week. Our piano students include children as young as age 5 to adults (we won't say how old!). Piano lessons are all taught by our friendly, fun, and energetic University Degreed Faculty onsite at our brand new campus located just outside of New Orleans.

How Long and Often are the Lessons?

Students, depending on age, are able to choose either a 30, 45, or 60 weekly private or group lesson. Some students ask to meet with the teacher more than once a week, but in our experience, once per week is plenty enough to meet with the piano instructor. The remainder of the week should be spent in practice sessions - working and perfecting (as much as possible) the assignments provided by the teacher.

What will be taught in Piano Lessons?

Depending on the style and level of piano lessons that the piano student is interested in, the instructor will recommend a specific course method to get you started. At our school, our New Orleans based piano teachers are able to provide traditional piano lessons, classical piano lessons, jazz piano lessons, rock piano lessons, blues piano lessons, gospel piano lessons, contemporary piano lessons, christian piano lessons, video game piano lessons, and more! Our teachers are very much interested in customizing their lesson plans to the needs and interests of each student so as to maximize the students progress and overall enjoyment of the instrument.

All beginning students will be assigned course methods from Alfred, Faber & Faber, Schaum, Bastien, Thompson, and more depending on your teacher (or your preference should you have one). As the student progresses (or if already familiar with the basics), the instructor will introduce new music (appropriate for his/her level) depending on the stylistic interests of the student.

Of course, all students will learn to read standard piano notation in the treble and bass clefs, scales, and depending on the instructor and interests of the student - possibly ear training, music history, improvisation.

What is Music Theory - is that Included in Piano Lesson Plans?

Music Theory is essentially the mechanics of music. Music theory classes include learning how music is put together, works and functions. It focuses heavily on reading music, learning to analyze, structure, and possibly compose your own music!

At our school, all of our piano students have the opportunity to additionally attend a weekly 45 minute group theory class which is included with your monthly tuition at no extra charge!

Is a Piano Required at Home to Practice in Order to Take Lessons?

This is one of our most frequently asked questions. You do not need an acoustic piano to get started in piano lessons. It is recommended that all piano students at our school have access to at least a 61 key digital piano/keyboard at home for practice purposes. The keys on the digital piano should be full sized and touch sensitive. You can expect to spend a minimum of $100 on a good quality beginning level keyboard from manufactures like Casio and/or Yamaha. For more information on what to look for when shopping for a digital piano/keyboard, please watch the video above!
